What is the Mental Health Academy?

Mental Health Academy is a leading provider of continuing education for the counseling and mental health industry. The diverse range of courses is developed specifically for CE and delivered online for convenient access, 24/7.

 

How are courses and videos delivered?

For your convenience, Mental Health Academy courses and videos are delivered online. Each program is available via the MHA website in your member profile, and all materials are accessible online, on-demand, 24/7. Both courses and videos - including the online assessment modules - are compatible with most up-to-date browsers and devices.

 

How do I become a member?

To access courses or videos you must be a Mental Health Academy member. There are four membership options to choose from: Premium (monthly or annual) and Standard (monthly or annual).
 
Premium memberships provide you with unrestricted access to all courses and videos. The only way to access videos is through a Premium membership. Standard memberships provide access to courses only. As a Standard member you can upgrade your access to Premium at any time.

Are there any pre-requirements to become a member?

No. Anyone can become a Mental Health Academy member. Our membership options are suitable for both personal and professional development (continuing education) purposes.

 

I'm a member. How do I access courses and videos?

 

First, make sure you login using the login box on the top-right section of our homepage. Once you are logged on, you can subscribe to as many courses (Standard and Premium members) or videos (Premium members only) you'd like, at no additional cost to your monthly or annual membership fees.

 

To subscribe to courses, simply visit the courses section, use the left-side navigation options to find a course, then click the access button located under the course overview and content sections. Each course you subscribe to is automatically added to the "My Profile" page, where you can access the content from the "My Courses" section.

 

To subscribe to videos (you must be a Premium member to subscribe to videos), simply visit the videos section, use the left-side navigation options to find a video, then click the access button located under the video description. Each video you subscribe to is automatically added to the "My Profile" page, where you can access the content from the "My Videos" section.

 

How long do I have to complete a course or video?

Mental Health Academy courses and videos are self-paced and can be completed progressively, at any time. Whilst we do not stipulate a minimum period to complete any program, please note you must be an active member to gain access to any courses or videos currently listed in your "My Profile" page.

 

If you cancel or fail to renew your membership, you will no longer be able to access courses or videos you have not completed (although you will be able to renew/ reactivate your access at any time). 

 

If I logout of my account or leave the assessment page, will my answers be lost?

No. However, you need to ensure that you save your progress as you progress through the assessments. Simply use the appropriate button at each assessment question. Saving each answer ensures your information is saved for the next time you access it.

 

Do you issue certificates upon completion of a program?

All Mental Health Academy programs include a self-paced, mandatory online assessment component. When you submit your assessment for a course or video and achieve the minimum 80% completion rate, you are able to download a branded certificate of completion stating your results. The same certificate can also be downloaded at any time from the "My Courses" or "My Videos" sections via the "My Profile" page.

 

How many questions do I need to answer correctly to complete a course or video?

To successfully complete a Mental Health Academy course or video, you are required to obtain a minimum of 80% correct answers on the overall result.

 

I have completed a course/video, what happens now? How do I get my certificate?

When you submit your assessment for a course or video and achieve the minimum 80% completion rate, you can download a branded certificate of completion stating your results. The same certificate can also be downloaded from the "My Courses" or "My Videos" tables via the "My Profile" page.

 

What do course HOURS and LEVELS refer to?

HOURS are calculated in accord with the course's duration in words. In general, 1 hour refers to courses that have up to 5,000 words; 2 hours to courses that have between 5,000 and 10,000 words; whilst 3-hour courses have 10,000-15,000 words. 

 

LEVELS reflect the complexity of the course content. Generally, LEVEL 1 courses provide an introduction to a topic or theory; LEVEL 2 courses provide more in-depth exploration, including specific applications; and LEVEL 3 courses concentrate of practical aspects, revolving around comprehensive case studies.

 

Do I get Continuing Education (CE) Credits when completing courses and videos?

Mental Health Academy courses and videos are currently approved/ endorsed for Continuing Education Credits by the following associations and credentialing bodies. Please refer to your association / credentialing body for further information on how to submit your CE completion records.

Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)

 

Counsellor certification from CCPA is for a period of three years only and is renewable through an application process.

To assist all members in obtaining their  continuing education credits (CEC) required for certification renewal, CCPA has established a national continuing education program. This program reviews a wide variety of professional events, including: workshops, conferences, webinars, institutes and courses, and grants credit to those events that provide quality information for continued education. Continuing education credits through the Mental Health Academy are pre-approved at a rate of one credit per clock hour of professional learning.


La certification de conseiller de l’ACCP est d’une durée de trois ans seulement et est renouvelable au moyen d’un processus de demande.

Afin d’aider tous les membres dans l’obtention de leurs crédits de formation continue (CFC) requis pour le renouvellement de la certification, l’ACCP a établi un programme national d’éducation continue. Ce programme passe en revue une grande variété d’événements professionnels, y compris : des ateliers, des conférences, des webinaires, des instituts et des cours, et accorde des crédits pour les événements qui fournissent des informations de qualité pour la formation continue. Les crédits de formation continue obtenus auprès de la Mental Health Academy sont approuvés au préalable à un taux d’un crédit par heure d’horloge d’apprentissage professionnel.

I am having trouble watching videos, what should I do?

First, check if you are referring to a video within the "My Videos" section, or an embedded video within a course. Videos embedded into course content originate from external websites such as YouTube or TED. If you are unable to watch these videos, we recommend you check whether your network may be blocking access to these websites. For example, in some workplaces and governmental buildings access to YouTube is blocked by administrators.

 

Videos in your "My Videos" list are webstreamed through a HTML5 video player. This technology allows you to watch videos using a range of different devices and browsers. If are unable to play a video, please email us, describing what is happening, and we will provide you with more specific feedback.

 

If you can play the video, however you are experiencing issues with the flow of the content (e.g. the presentation is not playing continuously, or it is taking a long time to load), then we recommend you contact your internet service provider to verify whether there are temporary problems with your internet connection and speed. If you live in a remote area with a slow internet connection, please email us for further instructions.

 

I haven't received your newsletter or other emails. What is happening?

Some network administrators (workplace) and email programs (such as Hotmail, Yahoo, GMail, etc) may be blocking the Mental Health Academy emails. With the increasing amount of SPAM on the web, many email accounts are set to block certain email addresses.

 

To avoid that, contact your mail administrator and ensure that the addresses info@mentalhealthacademy.net and ezine@mentalhealthacademy.net are both cleared. Conversely, you can add these addresses to your contact list. In most cases, this action is enough to clear emails being sent from this address.

 

I received an email stating that I need to update my payment details. What happened?

 

Mental Health Academy's cutting-edge, automated billing system has a daily routine for processing due membership fee payments. When a payment is processed and declined (declined payments can occur as a result of an expired credit card, insufficient funds, an authorisation issue with the bank, or simply a temporary communication error between the payment gateway and your banking institution), our system automatically sends out an email notification to you, letting you know we've had a problem. 
If you receive a notification, we recommend you login to your membership profile to check if your payment details are up-to-date (including the expiry date). You can do this via the "My Details" section of your "My Profile" page. If you would like the payment re-processed (i.e. you do not think there is a problem with your account), you do not need to take any action as this occurs automatically – if the payment is declined again, our system will email another notification.

What happens if my account access is "suspended"?

When your account is suspended, you can still access your profile and records. However, you will only be able to access courses and videos you have already completed. Courses and videos "in progress" will be unavailable until your payment or membership renewal are confirmed.

 

To renew your access, simply click the "Renew" button located on the top-right window of your logged on member profile, select a membership type, and follow the prompt registration instructions.

 

I would like to pay for courses via direct debt or cheque. Is that possible?

No. However, the majority of banks now offer a free service which allows you to use your regular key card (bank card) as a credit card for online and offline purchases. If you are not sure about this service, please contact your bank to find out more. 

 

I've been paying membership fees but haven't accessed resources. Can I get a refund?

No. We do not refund paid fees on the basis of "not using the account". To draw a comparison, Mental Health Academy's memberships are very similar to a Gym membership - your payment gives you the right to access resources whether or not you decide to. It is your sole responsibility to monitor your access to resources.

 

Can I still access my completed courses after I cancel my membership?

Yes. If your membership has been cancelled or is currently suspended, you will still be able to access your completed courses. Cancellation of your membership means you won't be able to access courses or videos in progress, or new courses or videos that were released after your cancellation. And if you decide to re-join to access new programs, you can easily do so via the same profile.

 

I want to cancel my current membership. What do I need to do?

 

To cancel your Mental Health Academy membership you must submit a request, in writing or by email to admin@mentalhealthacademy.net at least 3 working days before the due date of your membership cycle. Cancellations will be processed before the monthly due date and are effective from the next due date.

 

Unless stated otherwise, the associated cost of Monthly Unlimited Memberships are for the full duration of the membership period (or minimum membership term). Cancellations received within the initial monthly membership period will accrue a cancellation fee equal to the unpaid portion of the membership, after which time no further monthly fees will be charged. 

 

For example, a cancellation received 3 months prior to the end of the membership period will accrue a cancellation fee of 3 times the monthly membership fee. The cancellation fee will be applied automatically upon receipt of cancellation to the members registered credit card. Upon expiry of the initial membership period, the members account will remain active on a month by month basis until such time as a cancellation request is provided.

 

Unless a cancellation request has been provided in writing, your monthly or annual membership will be renewed automatically upon expiry of your next monthly or annual billing cycle. 

 

 

How do I get a tax invoice for my membership fee payments?

Tax invoices for your membership fee payments are available online and can be accessed at any time via the "My Payments" section of your logged on "My Profile" page.

 

Can I use the material to train staff or colleagues?

Mental Health Academy courses, videos and other educational resources are only to be used by the individual person that registered. All resources are available at a very fair and reasonable investment. Only by strictly following our copyright restrictions can we continue to deliver courses at a low rate for everybody.

 

Can I reproduce content in the newsletter?

If you wish to reproduce any articles and other content from our newsletter, you will need to email our team and request permission to reproduce a particular section. We will review your request and provide you with a response generally within 1-week.
