Self Harming


Self harming is a maladaptive behavior that serves as a coping mechanism for managing overwhelming negative feelings such as anger, sadness, loneliness, shame, guilt and other forms of emotional pain. Self harming is a challenging behavior for mental health practitioners. This course provides a theoretical construct for the concept of self harming and offers an overview of treatment options considered appropriate in its address.



In this course, you will gain an understanding of the aetiology, the biological, social and psychological effects, and common interventions used in the treatment of self harming.
